MacKenzie King are excited to be recruiting a Tax Accountant for a collaborative and values-led business that’s a household name in the local area. This role is based out of their office in Ipswich and offers a hybrid working pattern of 3 days in the office and 2 days from home. As a Tax Accountant you will take ownership of tax compliance, managing a broad spectrum of direct and indirect tax matters, including Corporation Tax, VAT, and tax planning across the business and its group companies. You may not have experience in every aspect of the responsibilities, but the business is supportive and appreciate there may be development points to grow into.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Leading on all Corporation Tax and VAT matters, including returns and forecasting
  • Managing capital allowances, R&D claims, and tax provisions (current and deferred)
  • Advising on the tax implications of property transactions
  • Supporting tax risk management and compliance with the Society’s tax strategy
  • Leading and developing a small team of Finance Assistants
  • Building strong relationships with HMRC and professional advisors
  • Collaborating with wider finance teams to support business decision-making

Qualifications and experience

  • Professional qualification in tax (CTA) or accountancy (ACA, ACCA)
  • Significant UK experience in Corporation Tax and VAT compliance
  • Experience in tax planning, risk management, and stakeholder communication
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation and tax accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and tax/accounting software (e.g. NetSuite)
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach
