MacKenzie King are working with a long-standing business with nearly 20 years experience in their industry to recruit a Purchase Ledger Clerk into their supportive finance team. The Purchase Ledger Clerk will be responsible for end-to-end purchase ledger processing, expenses processing and reconciling bank accounts among other tasks. The successful Purchase ledger Clerk will be someone who has solid experience in taking ownership of a high-volume purchase ledger department and can work well alone and with others for support. Due to the industry within which the business operates, it is essential that the Purchase Ledger Clerk has previous experience working in the construction industry, has worked with CIS previously and has good knowledge of the unique demands of this industry.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Responsibility of inputting all subcontractor and material invoices for approval
  • Assist with the three-way matching of purchase invoices using the purchase orders and delivery notes from site
  • Responsible for tracking utilities bills
  • Assist with payment runs and ad hoc payments online
  • Create and maintain supplier records
  • Prepare CIS returns
  • Prepare bank reconciliations
  • Process company credit cards
  • Tracking of company mileages and processing of expenses
  • Monitoring on and off hire of plant for insurers
  • Maintenance of the company’s accounts inboxes
  • Communication with external suppliers and internal business contacts, including via the phone
  • Other bookkeeping tasks
  • Other ad hoc duties as required

Qualifications and experience

  • Previous experience within the construction industry is essential
  • Experience with CIS is essential
  • Experience with VAT is essential
  • Experience using accounting software (Xero/Sage/Eque2) is preferable
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • Self-motivated and resilient with excellent organisational skills
  • Hardworking, flexible and reliable with good attention to detail
  • Adaptable and works well under pressure
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel is essential
