MacKenzie King are looking for a part-time Assistant Accountant (18-24 hours) to join a growing distribution business, based in Ipswich. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Assistant Accountant will assist with the preparation of timely and accurate financial reports, forecasts, information, and analysis. This role is well suited to a forward thinking individual that's looking for a mentor to support their professional development. 

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • To calculate and post all monthly journals including accruals, prepayments, provisions, intercompany, payroll, depreciation balance sheet releases.
  • Monitor fleet costs against budget.
  • Maintenance and control of the general ledger to ensure all nominal accounts are up to date, maintain chart of accounts that is compatible with effective analysis.
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of the monthly management accounts pack, monthly forecasts, and annual budgets, investigating variances and providing commentary.
  • Responsibility for monthly payroll submission to Bureau service.
  • Complete and submit quarterly VAT return for the group.
  • Assist with the annual P11d and PSA calculations.
  • Assist with preparation of year end audit, reconciliations and working papers.
  • Assist with the development of the financial reporting models.
  • Assist the finance team with the coding of invoices and expenses.
  • Maintain asset register for all company assets.
  • Ad-hoc projects to include but not limited to customer & supplier reconciliations, profit, and margin analysis.
  • Assist with the implementation and management of finance software.

Qualifications and experience

  • This position requires someone with at least 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Minimum AAT level 4 studier.
  • The role requires an understanding of all elements of financial management such as budgeting, cash management, capital spending, pricing and profit and loss statements.
  • Strong work ethic and communicator with the ability to influence and to report to Senior Management if there is non-compliance with regulatory, ethical or company policies / standards.
  • The person doing this role must have strong MS Office skills
  • Good understanding systems and applications and control environment necessary to ensure integrity of numbers.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
