Head of Trusts

Job Reference: 887607

Bury St. Edmunds

£75,000 - £80,000 per annum

MacKenzie King are excited to be recruiting a Head of Trusts for a well-established, growing legal practice with an outstanding reputation in private client work. The firm is investing deliberately in its tax and trusts capability and is seeking a senior professional to own, lead, and evolve this specialism.

This Head of Trusts role will suit someone who is technically strong, commercially aware, and quietly ambitious – someone who enjoys leading experts, shaping services, and being trusted to get on with things.

This is ideal for someone who feels they could have greater influence, better quality work, or more flexibility.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a trusts and personal tax function within a wider private client offering
  • Provide strategic, proactive advice to individuals, trustees, executors and beneficiaries
  • Act as the senior technical authority on:
    • Trust and estate accounts
    • Personal tax compliance
    • Inheritance, Capital Gains and Income Tax planning
    • Non-domicile and non-resident issues
  • Oversee and support complex trust and estate administrations
  • Develop and promote the firm’s trusts and tax proposition, internally and externally
  • Train, mentor and support junior and mid-level team members
  • Collaborate closely with other departments on joined-up client work

Qualifications and experience

  • An experienced trusts and tax professional already operating at a senior level
  • Confident advising on complex estates, trusts and private client tax matters
  • Comfortable leading, mentoring and developing a specialist team
  • Commercially minded, with a collaborative rather than territorial approach
  • Someone who values culture, autonomy and long-term career satisfaction
  • Professional qualifications may include AAT, ATT, ACA, ACCA or TEP, with strong technical breadth across UK trusts, estates and personal taxation

Benefits

What sets this opportunity apart?

  • This is not a volume-driven or back-office role.
  • A genuinely supportive, people-first culture with trust, autonomy and accountability at its core
  • Access to interesting, complex and high-value work, rather than commoditised compliance
  • Real influence over how the trusts function develops and operates
  • A firm that values output over presenteeism, with flexible and agile working genuinely embedded
  • Leaders who are open, progressive and invested in long-term growth, not short-term fixes
  • Strong cross-referral culture and collaboration between disciplines
  • A regional platform with the quality and ambition of a much larger firm
