MacKenzie King are excited to be recruiting a Financial Controller for a well-established and growing business that’s looking to appoint an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of its finance function.

As the Financial Controller you will report directly into the leadership team. It will suit someone who enjoys being hands-on, understands the detail, and is comfortable working in a fast-moving, commercially focused environment where processes are continuing to evolve.

You’ll be responsible for delivering clear, accurate financial information, improving reporting and controls, and acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Running the day-to-day finance function and managing a small team to ensure accuracy, controls and deadlines are consistently met
  • Overseeing stock control, including movement tracking, reconciliations and valuations
  • Making sure all financial and stock transactions are properly recorded and maintained across internal systems
  • Managing daily cashflow forecasting and ensuring the business has sufficient liquidity
  • Handling bank reconciliations and authorising payments in line with company policy
  • Managing deposit accounts and foreign exchange requirements
  • Overseeing supplier payments and customer invoicing, ensuring agreed terms are adhered to
  • Reviewing payroll data and overseeing payroll processing
  • Acting as the main point of contact for the workplace pension scheme
  • Preparing monthly management accounts with clear commentary for decision-making
  • Producing statutory accounts and leading the year-end process
  • Managing the external audit and liaising with advisors and HMRC
  • Ensuring VAT, corporation tax and employment taxes are compliant and filed on time
  • Supporting HR-related matters from a finance and compliance perspective
  • Improving processes, systems and reporting as the business continues to grow

Qualifications and experience

  • CIMA, ACCA, or ACA Qualified is preferred
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller in a commercial environment
  • Someone comfortable being hands-on but able to operate at a senior level
  • Strong Excel skills and a solid analytical mindset
  • A confident communicator who can challenge processes and offer practical solutions
  • Detail-focused, organised and proactive
  • Experience managing and developing a small team
