MacKenzie King are excited to be recruiting an Interim Financial Accountant (18 months) to join a well-established business, based North of Colchester. As an Interim Financial Accountant, you will be working with a collaborative finance team and play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, ensuring compliance, and supporting a range of transformation initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Financial Accountant who enjoys combining technical accounting expertise with process improvement and project work.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Take ownership of monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and post journals with minimal supervision.
  • Support the preparation and completion of statutory accounts and group reporting submissions.
  • Perform reconciliations of debtor, creditor and intercompany balances across multiple entities.
  • Produce and review balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisers and other key stakeholders, providing documentation and responding to queries as required.
  • Ensure accounting policies, controls and governance requirements are applied consistently.
  • Lead and support finance improvement projects, including systems enhancements and process optimisation initiatives.
  • Mentor and support junior team members where required, with potential line management responsibilities.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Minimum two years' post-qualification experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence using financial systems.
  • Excellent understanding of financial accounting principles and reporting requirements.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and build positive working relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Previous audit and assurance experience.
  • Experience working within a shared services, multi-entity or group reporting environment.
  • Exposure to finance systems implementation or process improvement projects.
