MacKenzie King are recruiting the position of Finance Assistant for an Ipswich based business who are a leader of innovation in their field. The position of Finance Assistant will reside in the sales ledger team and offer support to the Credit Controller. Maintaining a tidy ledger is essential in the smooth running of the business and so requires someone who can be self-start, plan and prioritise their workload to be the most effective and efficient. The successful Finance Assistant candidate will be a thoughtful and helpful team player who has a positive approach to their work.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Maintaining an accurate and tidy sales ledger
  • Keep the cash book records accurate and up to date
  • Allocating all receipts to invoices and providing a resolution where discrepancies have occurred.
  • Ensure the sales ledger can close at the end of each month, on time with all tasks completed.
  • Proactively resolve customer queries.
  • Ensure customer orders can be delivered at the earliest opportunity; proactively communicate on proforma and stopped accounts with the relevant team members across the business, including the Credit Controller.

Qualifications and experience

  • A minimum of one year's experience working in a related finance role, with experience of the sales ledger, cash book and reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of the customer order process from start to finish across the business and how the finance team impacts this.
  • Understanding of various banking transactions and processes, such as Direct Debit, cheques, bacs, standing orders.
  • Understanding of the different elements within the sales ledger and the month end process.
  • Experience with customers of various sizes and complexities, such as sole traders to multi-site national companies.
  • Knowledge of good customer service and the part the team plays in delivering customer satisfaction.
  • Ideally be studying towards a professional accountancy qualification, such as AAT level 3 or above.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritise a heavy workload
  • Tenacious to gets things done and responsive to get things done to deadline
  • IT proficient, with a good understanding of MS Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams) and ERP systems
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Reliable and committed to delivering right, first time and to deadline

  • Friendly and supportive of others; a great team player
