Meet the team: Introducing Stacy Barr

Joining MacKenzie King as a qualified accountant (ACCA), Stacy Barr is a real asset to the team, and not just because she’s highly qualified and experienced. She also happens to be one of the kindest, bubbliest and thoughtful people we know.

So that you can learn a little bit more about our Accountant, Stacy, we asked her a few questions to share with you all.

Let’s begin with Stacy’s expertise…

What led you to a career in accounting?

“In secondary school, I loved math. Dad would also explain taxes to me. I can still picture him inviting me to listen in on his chats with his bank manager. This made me think seriously about a career in Accountancy. So I decided to take A-level Business Studies followed by an apprenticeship at Ensors.

“I went on to study and pass my AAT qualifications in 2005 before qualifying as a Certified Chartered Accountant in 2011 – by far, my biggest career achievement to date.”

What drew you to the role at MacKenzie King?

“I had just got back from a holiday, and I absolutely knew that I really didn’t want to return to the job I was in. Working in Practice was just not for me anymore.

“The role at MacKenzie King, though, was exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted more of a Management Accountant role and I really enjoy bookkeeping and payroll. Plus, the office is near to where I live and when I met MacKenzie King’s Directors, Catherine & Cheryl, and the rest of team, I wanted the job even more.”

What challenges do you enjoy most in your role?

“I absolutely love being in a new industry. Learning what goes on behind the scenes in a recruitment agency has been so fascinating – no two days are ever the same. What’s really interesting is that I’ve been on the other side, as a candidate, and now I can see the level of care, detail, communication and skill that goes into placing people at Mackenzie King. I also like the fact that I still have the professional challenge as I am often asked to produce different reports and financial analysis projects for Catherine and Cheryl.”

Getting more familiar…

What’s at the top of your bucket list?

“Disney World Florida, for sure. I’ve always loved Disney and it’s a dream to take my three children (Ryan, Chloe and Ella) there – not that I need the kids as an excuse!”

What’s your guilty pleasure?

“My hidden chocolate stash. You know, the nice chocolate that all parents dig out after the kids go to bed.

“I’m also not embarrassed to admit that I like cheesy 90s music, especially boy bands. I went to see the same Backstreet Boys concert twice on their last tour.”

Do you have a favourite quote or saying?

“I do like “If it’s meant to be, it will be”, which is something I’m living by at the moment as we’ve just put our house on the market while eyeing up one that we love. Fingers crossed!”

Away from us, what do you outside of work?

“Where do I start? We do lots together as a family, and so that takes up most of my time, but I also do a lot of other things – I’m always planning something with my friends. We love a good escape room, murder mystery party or a trip to the races. There’s always something in the diary.

“I also love to craft, and so I’m always making things. I find it really relaxing.”
