Ensure that your first impression has a lasting effect!

A good CV is a gateway to many valuable experiences, from gaining the work experience that defines your future career path to landing your dream job. So, take your time to build it & devote the energy to refreshing it.

Here are MacKenzie King’s top tips:

Make a statement:

Showcase your abilities, what it is that makes you the right person for the role?  Ensure you include your future aspirations – Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Employers really want to understand what makes you stand out from the crowd and a mini sales pitch can be a great approach!

Be clear and concise:

One of the major temptations when writing a CV can be to shout about everything you’ve ever accomplished. Try to be ruthlessly focused on experiences or achievements that are relevant.

Remember this is just a preview to what will hopefully lead to an interview – allowing face time to discuss these key areas in more detail.

Presentation:

It’s important not to forget about presentation, really think about the layout and remember it needs to be reader friendly.

Think about headings, font, correct use of paragraphs and most importantly ensure that your key information is easy to digest.

This is your introduction to the employer, make it count!

Regularly Review your CV:

It’s crucial to review your CV on a regular basis and add any new skills or experience that may be missing……. Building your CV foundation is just the first steps.

And last but not least:

Create an online Presence:

Your CV does not have to be confined to a paper document – having a strong and professional LinkedIn profile is an invaluable asset to support your CV. Not only is your profile visible to your future employer, but it is also visible to a large network of head-hunters, future employers and potential colleagues too.
