If you’re familiar with how we work here at MacKenzie King, you’ll know that we are a very people-first company. As such, it’s always important that anyone joining our team is the right fit for the company, because the career progression of our team is super important to us. We want all of our team members to succeed and do well in their chosen profession, and if we can aid that at all, then so be it!

Sarah is one of our consultants who we have supported through her career progression, and as such, she has recently been promoted to Senior Recruitment Consultant. But why did Sarah choose MacKenzie King in the first place? And what made her decide that recruitment was the correct career path for her? We’ve cornered Sarah to find out a bit more about her and see what makes her tick!

Sarah Hope

Sarah joined MacKenzie King in 2015 after finishing her A-levels. Sarah’s focus is on recruitment for non-qualified and part qualified vacancies within the Essex area, and she has recently been promoted to Senior Recruitment Consultant.

Hi, Sarah! You’ve been with us for a while now, but what originally made you join the MacKenzie King team?

The attraction to MacKenzie King for me was the opportunity to start my career as a Recruitment Consultant with full training and support.

Did you always want to work in recruitment, or did you originally have a different career path in mind?

Whilst in sixth form I always knew that uni wasn’t for me and that I wanted to get straight into the workplace and make money. Having heard a lot about the recruitment world, I thought it would fit me perfectly. Being paid to talk all day long (my favorite hobby!), earn as much money as I want and help others at the same time just seemed like a great fit.

How have MacKenzie King supported your career progression?

MacKenzie King have supported my career progression by creating a realistic promotion framework. All the way along, the targets were achievable, I had constant support and reviews with the Directors and was fully encouraged by my peers. Already they are talking to me about my future with MacKenzie King and future opportunities.

What does a typical day in the MacKenzie King office look like?

If only there was a typical day in recruitment! A day usually consists of catching up on emails and advert responses, headhunting top talent, creating marketing campaigns and going out of the office for coffees or lunches with candidates/clients.

What are the best parts of working for MacKenzie King?

The best part about MacKenzie King is that you are responsible for running your own desk. You are in control of your diary, can set your own targets on a weekly basis and are not micromanaged. They also set achievable KPI’s and have great bonus structures in place.

What do you do when you’re outside of the office?

Outside of the office I can either be found at an early morning spin class, lying on a Caribbean beach sipping a strawberry daquiri or buying new handbags or shoes!

And finally, what advice would you give anyone looking to work in recruitment?

Do your research on the recruitment world and talk to recruitment consultants about their experiences. Think about what industries might interest you and make sure you join the right recruitment agency.
